Two men were jailed at Carlisle Crown Court today following a violent robbery last year.

Shane Millea, 51, and Roger Murphy, 52, both of Winscale Way, Carlisle, were sentenced for their roles in the robbery.

Millea received a sentence of six years and three months.

Murphy was sentenced to eight years and one month for robbery and possession of a Class B drug, cannabis.

Both men are subject to lifetime restraining orders.

The sentences follow guilty pleas after a one-day trial earlier this month.

The court heard that on 16 May last year, Millea and Murphy attended the victims address.

Millea knocked on the door to draw her attention, allowing Murphy to push his way inside.

Murphy grabbed the woman by the neck and subjected her to threats, punching and pulling her hair.

CCTV footage captured their movements in the area.

The victim managed to escape, after which the men left with £105 taken from her purse.

A bag of cannabis was found between the men at the scene.

Detectives Praise Witnesses

Detective Constable Emma Barker commented on the case, saying, "Millea and Murphy subjected the victim to a sustained assault before taking money from her purse."

"The victim suffered bruising and cuts following the incident.

"Offences of this nature are unacceptable.

"This sentence reflects the seriousness taken by the courts and that we will do everything we can to bring criminals to justice.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the witnesses that came forward following our press appeal."
