A dramatic late-night rescue mission unfolded in the Lake District at the weekend, after a lone walker found himself stranded while carrying his injured dog.

The man had been on the fells since the morning of 10 August, with his thirty-five kilogram Husky, Prince.

After reaching the summit of Slight Side, Prince suffered cut paws and could no longer walk.

His owner carried him over rough terrain for several hours before realising he was too exhausted to safely continue.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were called out just before half past nine in the evening, reaching the pair near Burnmoor Tarn.

Prince was placed on a stretcher and carried back to Brackenclose in the early hours, lapping up the attention from rescuers.

The team says they hope the Husky makes a swift recovery and that his owner has also bounced back from the long ordeal.
