Cumberland Council is initiating significant upgrades to High Lowca Road, part of the Lowca NCN Route 72 Active Travel Scheme.

Starting 16 February, the works will address road network repairs, improve cycle routes, install a new raised table for enhanced pedestrian and cyclist safety, upgrade street lighting, and reinstate road markings.

The project will unfold in phases over approximately seven weeks, contingent on site and weather conditions.

The first two weeks necessitate a full road closure: Phase 1 covers north of East Road junction to Seabreeze House from 16th to 19th February, and Phase 2 from south of East Road junction to Foundry Road from 20th to 28th February.

Following these closures, Phase 3 will feature works using temporary traffic lights affecting Foundry Road, Stamford Hill Ave, and East Road for around five weeks, including the raised table installation.

While access during Phases 1 and 2 for residents will be constrained, entry will be possible when safe.

Other residents can navigate via Lowca Back Road or Foundry Road as per the ongoing phase.

East Road will remain open.

School bus services will continue without interruption, while the general bus service will operate on a limited timetable during the improvements.

Traffic marshals will assist residents to access their homes safely where feasible.

Work hours are scheduled from 7.30am to 6.00pm.
