Mountain rescue volunteers assist injured man on Helvellyn
Quick response after fall on Swirral Edge leads to airlift
On Saturday, 18th July, volunteers from the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team responded swiftly to assist a man who had fallen and injured his head on Swirral Edge, Helvellyn.
The North West Ambulance Service called the team at 14:40 due to the severity of the injury and challenging high-altitude location.
Swift Rescue Coordination
Fortunately, Team members were already present at Helvellyn's summit for fundraising activities and promptly arrived at the scene.
They transported the casualty to the summit of Helvellyn where the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) helicopter had landed, providing a critical link in transporting the injured man to safety.
GNAAS flew the casualty back to Patterdale Base, where he was reassessed by the rescue team before NWAS took him to the hospital for further treatment.
Acknowledgment and Team Effort
The Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team expressed gratitude to the Great North Air Ambulance Service for their vital assistance in the operation.
Eleven team members were involved in the rescue, which was completed efficiently in one hour and 40 minutes, highlighting exemplary coordination between emergency services.
The collaborative effort ensured the injured man could receive the necessary medical care swiftly, reflecting the dedication and preparedness of all involved.
