Happy Mums Foundation in Carlisle launches £25,000 appeal to continue support for mothers
The community organisation warns of potential closure without emergency funding
The Happy Mums Foundation, a vital community organisation in Cumbria, has launched an urgent appeal to raise £25,000 to prevent its closure within the coming months. The foundation offers essential peer support for mothers experiencing mental health challenges and has helped over 1,000 families in the region over the past decade.
The organisation currently operates support groups in Carlisle, Brampton, and for those aged 13 to 25, which are under threat if emergency funds are not secured. According to Happy Mums, 75% of the mothers who attend receive no other form of mental health support.
Lucinda Bray, Managing Director of Happy Mums, expressed the urgency of the situation:
"I've been in tears most days this week as mums who attend our support groups tell me how much these groups have changed their lives and how scared they are of being left to cope without them... It is heartbreaking that a proven community-based solution is now at risk."
Providing Vital Support
Happy Mums Foundation offers free, accessible support to mothers who struggle with their mental health, beyond the threshold of statutory mental health services. Recent data highlights the positive impact with 92% of mums noticing improved well-being, 88% reporting greater social connections, and 79% experiencing an enhanced ability to cope with motherhood.
Such testimonials include mothers saying the groups "saved my life" and describing the foundation as "a lifeline."
How to Contribute
The foundation is asking for donations, sponsorships, grant support, and fundraising partnerships to reach their target of £25,000. These funds are crucial to maintain their services as they seek long-term financial support.
Donations can be made through the Happy Mums website.
