Cumbrian MP Tim Farron is taking on the London Marathon today, as he looks to raise money for Growing Well, a charity with bases near Kendal.

Growing Well's website states they "promote safe and encouraging environments, supporting people to create their own recovery goals. Through horticultural activity, we empower people to unearth new confidence, skills and purpose. They can define and track their own progress, and recover on their own terms, in their own community."

So far Tim has raised over 3 thousand pounds for the charity from this run alone.

Tim said: "I'm getting older, i've had the odd injury, who knows what might happen.

"You worry about things like the logistics, getting there, the right time, making sure your in the right start groups, have you got the right kit, the right flapjacks!

"What I love about the event though is the crowd. For that one day you get to pretend you are a professional sports star. People cheer on you and shout your name, but that's because it's on your bib. Whatever, I pretend they know who I am.

"The real joy is being with other runners. after a few miles you settle along side people a similar pace to you and encourage one another. It's a really great, joyful event."
