Family pays tribute to man killed in Ambleside crash
Ashok Suri suffered injuries which proved to be fatal in a collision in July
Tributes are being paid to a 77-year-old man who died following a crash in Ambleside.
Ashok Suri lost his life after suffering injuries in a collision on Wednesday 29th July 2026.
His family have described him as intelligent, thoughtful and witty, with an “amazing zest for life” and a love of learning.
In a statement they said:
“He left us far too suddenly… and it is still difficult to believe that he is no longer physically with us. He always had so much love, wisdom, and warmth to give, and his cherished presence touched the lives of everyone around you. Though his journey ended far too suddenly, the love, kindness, and values he gave us, will be cherished in our memories and continue to live on in our hearts.
“Ashok has been a striver of excellence in the theatre of life, like his ranking in his exams in India, which won him the Scholarship. Even in his last days, he had been studying and researching to improve his health, like adapting his diet and recording it. He was always ready to learn a new subject and had expansive knowledge on a variety of topics.
“He had an amazing zest for life. There was always a spring in his step and love in his heart! He was a deep thinker and lived life on his own terms. His commitment to excellence extended to his whole family and he encouraged each and every one of us to be our best and most fulfilled selves.
“Ashok Suri - pensive, thoughtful and quietly complex. He was intelligent and observant, with a dry wit and a healthy scepticism about the world. He did not live on the surface of things: he thought deeply, noticed more than he said, and saw life in his own distinctive way.
"He had a rare ability to look beyond appearances. He brought intelligence, insight and humour to every conversation, and he will always be remembered for his perceptiveness, his wit and his uncompromising honesty.
"Beneath his reflective nature was a real zest for life - an enduring curiosity, an openness to new experiences and a determination to keep learning, exploring and making the most of every day.
"Losing him so suddenly has been profoundly painful.”
