Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service have issued an "extreme wildfire risk" warning, covering the entire county.

It comes following a Met Office alert for more warm weather this week.

The service said grass and other vegetation were extremely dry and urged anyone who spotted a fire to call 999.

It said residents should expect to see notices warning people not to light open fires or barbeques appear across the county, in places like car parks, on footpaths and on fence posts.

It added firefighters have responded to a number of wildfires already this year.

In a statement, it said: "if you spot a wildfire, get to a safe place and call 999, telling us as much as you can about the location (What3Words is very helpful) and direction of the fire and what is burning.

"Alert us if there is anything or anyone near the fire in immediate danger".
