Initiative to tackle drink and drug driving in Cumbria begins
Operation Limit launches as arrests continue for driving offences.
A nationwide campaign targeting drink and drug driving offenders, named Operation Limit, will launch on 1st December 2025.
The operation aims to make roads safer by focusing on drivers under the influence. Police have reminded the public that anti-drink and drug driving measures are enforced throughout the year, with arrests continuing ahead of the official start date.
Recent arrests
On the night of 26th November, a 64-year-old man was arrested in Kendal after a roadside breath test showed he was more than three times the drink-drive limit. He was charged with drink driving and driving without insurance the following morning and is due to appear in court next month.
Separately, on 25th November, officers arrested a 36-year-old Lancashire man on London Road in Carlisle. His roadside breath test revealed he was almost double the legal limit. He too was charged and will face court proceedings in December.
“No excuses”
Police have emphasised the importance of planning ahead to avoid drink and drug driving, saying that lives are lost due to incidents that are entirely preventable.
The statement also highlighted the advanced training of officers in identifying potential offenders, alongside the technology available to test drivers suspected of being over the limit.
Operation Limit is a reminder to ensure safe arrangements are made for travel, especially during the festive season, when drink and drug driving offences often increase.
