Cumbria Constabulary has authorised specific conditions under Section 12 of the Public Order Act 1986 to assist with the ongoing policing operation in and around the Sellafield site.

Officers have been managing industrial action and related protests for the past five weeks, with further demonstrations planned from 17 November and in the coming weeks. The new conditions take effect from Thursday, 13 November.

Under the order:

Processions must not begin before 7am.

Processions must end by 10am.

Any procession from Calder Bridge to North Gate must start south of the Sella Park Country House Hotel junction.

Failure to comply with these conditions constitutes an offence under the Public Order Act 1986.

A Cumbria Constabulary spokesperson explained:

“The imposition of these conditions has become necessary due to the cumulative impact these protests have had on local communities. These conditions do not prevent peaceful protesting but fairly balance the rights of protesters with those of residents and members of the public going about their lawful business.”

Members of the public are advised to anticipate potential delays in the area and plan their journeys accordingly.
