Cumberland Council contractors win considerate construction awards
Krol Corlett Construction and Morgan Sindall Construction have both received Bronze awards at the Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Awards.
Cumberland Council has welcomed national recognition for two contractors involved in major regeneration and community projects across Carlisle and West Cumbria.
Krol Corlett Construction Ltd and Morgan Sindall Construction have both received Bronze awards at the Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Awards.
The awards recognise construction sites that go above and beyond to minimise disruption, support local communities and create a positive experience for residents, businesses and visitors.
They are presented at Bronze, Silver and Gold level, based on performance against the Considerate Constructors Scheme Code of Considerate Practice.
Krol Corlett Construction Ltd received a Bronze award for its work as lead contractor on the Carlisle Digital Hub.
The project is part of the £3.3 million Carlisle Town Deal investment and involves transforming Carlisle Library, on the first floor of The Lanes Shopping Centre, into a modern learning and community hub.
The redevelopment will create a welcoming and accessible space, including a children’s zone, social areas, adult learning classrooms, study spaces and a dedicated display area for The Jackson Collection.
The scheme also includes major structural improvements, rewiring and infrastructure upgrades to support new technology and future uses.
Morgan Sindall Construction also received a Bronze award for its work on the Workington Innovation Centre.
The purpose-built centre has now been handed over by Cumberland Council to Oxford Innovation Space ahead of a planned opening in summer 2026.
The facility will provide modern office accommodation and flexible workspace for start-ups and growing businesses, with a focus on digital technologies and advanced manufacturing.
It also complements other Workington Town Deal projects, including the Digital Accelerator Hub at Lakes College, supporting skills, employability and business growth in the town.
Leader of Cumberland Council, Cllr Mark Fryer, said: “These awards are a real credit to the contractors we are proud to work with across Cumberland.
“They recognise not just the quality of the finished buildings, but the care taken throughout construction to support local communities, respect the environment and look after the workforce.
“I would also like to thank our project managers, who work closely with contractors on site every day to help projects run smoothly and maintain these high standards.
“Their collaboration and commitment play a vital role in delivering successful schemes.
“Projects like the Carlisle Digital Hub and the Workington Innovation Centre are about creating long-term opportunities for Carlisle and Workington, and it is great to see the standards shown on site being recognised at a national level.”
Cumberland Council says it works closely with contractors and partners to ensure construction projects are delivered responsibly, with consideration for neighbours, businesses and the wider community while helping to achieve long-term regeneration and economic benefits.
