Planned bridge strengthening work on the C2030 at Ullock Bridge has been postponed, Cumberland Council has announced.

The work was due to start on 2nd November 2026.

The council said the planned road closure on the C2030 at Ullock Bridge will no longer begin on that date.

Why the work has been delayed

The council said it decided to defer the work after further discussions with local stakeholders and consideration of other works taking place in the area.

It said the aim is to minimise disruption for people living in the area, businesses and road users.

The council said it appreciates the change has been made at short notice and apologised for any inconvenience.

It thanked people for their patience and understanding while the work is reprogrammed.

What the work involves

The work would strengthen the bridge by installing a reinforced concrete saddle.

The council said this will help ensure the structure remains safe and reliable for years to come.

It said the work remains an important part of its highway maintenance programme.

What happens next

The council said the work is now expected to be rescheduled for early next year.

It said a revised start date will be announced once arrangements have been finalised.

The council said the improvements form part of its £27.3 million investment in maintaining and improving the local highway network.
