Cleator Moor Library is set to relocate temporarily as plans for a new community hub in Market Square take shape.

The proposed hub aims to reconfigure and link two existing buildings, including the library and the former Credit Union building, to provide enhanced public services and cultural facilities.

The temporary library relocation is part of the Cleator Moor Town Deal's initiative to revitalise the town centre by making the area more attractive to investors, and providing local employment and skill opportunities.

From 16th to 20th March 2026, physical library services will be on hold to facilitate the move, with operations resuming at the PEC Phase 3 building from the week commencing 23rd March 2026.

During the closure, online library services will still be accessible via the Borrowbox app.

The temporary site will continue to offer book browsing, borrowing, computing facilities, and various activities, with unchanged opening hours.

The new community hub will feature improved reading areas and internet access, alongside a proposed café annexe and other facilities including exhibition and arts space, aiming to enhance community services based on resident feedback.

Cllr Anne Quilter remarked: "We look forward to welcoming all customers to our temporary site and continuing to provide a library service in the community whilst the Town Deal project renovations and redevelopment go ahead in the coming months, subject to planning approval."
