The historic Cumbrian tailoring business has been recognised in the International Trade category.
A Cumbrian tailoring company with more than 160 years of heritage has won a prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise.
Redmayne 1860, based in Carlisle, has been recognised in the International Trade category.
The King’s Awards for Enterprise are among the UK’s most prestigious business awards, giving recipients global recognition as outstanding companies in their field.
Winners are also able to use the King’s Awards emblem as an internationally recognised endorsement.
Redmayne 1860 is one of Cumbria’s oldest tailoring businesses and is known internationally for its bespoke tailoring.
The company’s origins date back to 1860, and all of its bespoke garments are still cut and made in-house in Carlisle.
Claire Mahon, Managing Director of Redmayne 1860, said: “To receive The King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade is a tremendous honour for all of us here at Redmayne.
“As a Cumbrian firm with over 160 years of heritage, it is a particularly proud moment not only for British craftsmanship, but for the tradition of craftsmanship here in Cumbria.
“This recognition belongs to our entire team, young and old, and to our next generation of craftsmen and women who are carrying Redmayne’s legacy forward.
“Above all, our sincere thanks go to our clients around the world, whose loyalty, support, and appreciation of our commitment to excellence make our work possible.”
His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria, Mr Alexander Scott, welcomed the announcement.
He said: “I am delighted that one of Cumbria’s outstanding companies has been awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise 2026. This is an exceptional achievement and I congratulate everyone involved.
“These awards require a very high degree of achievement and are both difficult to attain and highly prestigious. They highlight excellence and demonstrate that here in Cumbria we have world-class companies.
“More Cumbrian businesses, whatever their size, should aspire to this recognition and I hope that they will take up the challenge.
“Previous winners confirm that the standing of the Award brings tangible benefits to their business and the Lieutenancy is ready to help and advise business owners who would like to know more.”
