Carlisle Station Gateway plans get the go ahead
Plans to create a new car park have been approved
A major regeneration project around Carlisle railway station has taken a step forward after councillors approved new plans.
The Station Gateway scheme will see the creation of a car park on the Station Road Business Park site, just south of Citadel Station and Carlisle city centre.
The 239-space car park will include Blue Badge bays, electric vehicle charging spaces and enlarged bays.
The space will also see trees planted and pedestrian crossings built.
It’s part of a £40.5 million regeneration project designed to "transform the area around Carlisle railway station and create a more welcoming, accessible and attractive environment for residents, commuters and visitors", Cumberland Council say.
A construction date is yet to be set.
Leader of Cumberland Council, Councillor Mark Fryer, said: “This is a really positive step forward for one of the most important regeneration projects in Carlisle.
"The Station Gateway scheme is about far more than bricks and mortar, it is about making first impressions count, improving accessibility and creating a place that works better for everyone."
