Cumberland Council Proposes Speed Limits for Carlisle Southern Link Road

Cumberland Council is now entering the formal stage of consultation and is inviting the public to share their views on the speed limits on the new Carlisle Southern Link Road (CSLR) and its connecting routes.
Cumberland Council intends to apply the national speed limit along the route and is proposing changes to the speed limit on adjoining routes. It is inviting comments from residents, stakeholders, and road users who may have any objections to the proposals.
Cumberland Council proposals:
To apply the National Speed Limit along the full CSLR route.
Introduce new 30 mph speed limits on parts of Wigton Road, Scalegate Road, Newbiggin Road, Burthwaite Road, Dalston Road, Peter Lane, Buckabank Road, Durdar Road, Brisco Road.
Introduce new 40 mph speed limits on parts of Dalston Road, Burbank Road, Ivegill Road, Brisco Road.
The statutory consultation began on 7 November 2025 and will run for three weeks.
