Cumberland Council is making progress on the transformation of the Carlisle Market Hall bus hub, aiming to create a more attractive and accessible gateway to the city centre.

This week, new sandstone paving has been installed, alongside resin around the tree pit, as part of Phase 1, which is scheduled to complete by the end of November 2026.

The project is supported by Government funding through the Bus Services Improvement Programme, and not from the council's core budget.

Pedestrian access remains available via signal-controlled crossings, and disruptions include temporary bus stop relocations and changes to pedestrian routes.

Cllr Denise Rollo said these improvements will create a more welcoming environment, thanking residents for their patience during the works.

Further updates will be made available as progress continues. Residents can check more details on the council's website.
