Carlisle man jailed for assaulting pregnant woman
34-year-old Steven Farren admitted actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation at Carlisle Crown Court
A man from Carlisle has been jailed for three years after assaulting a pregnant woman.
Steven Farren, 34, of Westmorland Street, was sentenced to three years at Carlisle Crown Court after pleading guilty to actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation.
The court heard that in November 2025 Farren assaulted a pregnant woman several times slapping her, throwing punches and hitting her in the stomach causing to fear for her life.
Farren also strangled the women on the sofa restricting her breathing leaving the woman again fearing for her life. She managed to escape the address were a friend called the police.
When officers attended the address Farren was aggressive towards them, threatening to use his dog.
Speaking on the case Detective Constable Josh Daniel from Cumberland CID said “Farran put the victim in fear of her life and caused her multiple injuries.
“The victim was also pregnant at the time of the assault putting her unborn child at risk.
“No one should be subjected to such offences and strangulation can have fatal consequences.
“We take reports of this nature extremely seriously and we will do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice, as seen in today case.
“Support is available and the Constabulary works closely with trusted partner agencies to provide the appropriate support which is tailored to an individual’s circumstances."
