Teenage girl pleads not guilty after man allegedly stabbed in Carlisle
She is set to stand trial after a hearing at the city's youth court
A 16-year-old girl has pleaded not guilty to two charges and is set to stand trial after a young man was allegedly stabbed multiple times at an address in Carlisle.
The girl cannot be identified because of her age.
She appeared at the city's youth court on this morning (Friday 6th November).
During a 20-minute hearing in front of three youth justices, she formally pleaded not guilty to both charges.
One charge alleges she unlawfully and maliciously wounded another teenager, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.
A second charge alleges she illegally possessed a kitchen knife in public at Greystone Road.
Both charges relate to incidents said to have happened on Wednesday 28th October.
Defence solicitor Duncan Campbell said in a brief address to the youth justices: "This young lady was, we say, defending herself."
What police said
Police said they were contacted by several members of the public just before 10pm on 28th October.
One person reported being approached by a girl carrying a large kitchen knife in the Melbourne Park area of Botcherby.
Officers went to an address on Botcherby Avenue, where they found an 18-year-old man.
A prosecutor said he was covered in blood and had multiple bleeding wounds to the upper body.
He was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.
His injuries were described as not life-threatening.
Trial date
The girl is next due to stand trial at the city's youth court.
The hearing is provisionally due to take place on 4th December, when evidence will be heard from a number of witnesses.
In the meantime, she has been remanded into local authority care.
