Carlisle residents invited to contribute to city’s future plans

The people of Carlisle now have the chance to influence the city's long-term development as the public consultation on the draft Carlisle Masterplan goes live today.

Running until 31st July 2026, the process invites residents and businesses to explore the ambitious proposals laid out in the masterplan, which outlines the vision, strategy, and various projects planned for the city over the next 25 years and beyond.

The Carlisle Masterplan and its vision

The draft Carlisle Masterplan details strategies and a variety of projects responding to previous consultation phases, ranging in complexity and scope.

Cumberland Council is leading the initiative in collaboration with partners, key stakeholders, the community, and businesses to help shape a positive trajectory for Carlisle's development.

Cllr Mark Fryer, Leader of Cumberland Council, expressed the importance of the plan by saying, “There has been significant investment in Carlisle, and the recent improvement works in the city centre have provided significant benefits. We need to build on the momentum and support the city’s economic future.”

Engagement events

For those looking to get involved, several engagement events are set to take place at the Assembly Rooms in the Old Town Hall, Carlisle. Attendees can join the sessions on Wednesday 15th July from 3pm to 7pm, Monday 20th July from 10am to 1pm, and Wednesday 22nd July from 2pm to 6pm.

These events provide an opportunity to explore the masterplan further and share insights that could shape the proposed visions for the city.

All proposals within the masterplan will undergo detailed feasibility assessments and designs before potential implementation. Cumberland Council will continue to review and refresh the pipeline of proposals as contexts and opportunities evolve.
