Carlisle is gearing up for a day of celebration as the Carlisle Carnivale takes over the city on Saturday 24th October.

Organised by Eden Arts, known for their Winter Droving event, the Carnivale will feature live music, circus acts, street performances, markets, and a twilight procession.

Performers from Cumbria and further afield will join local acts, community groups, and members of the public for a day filled with activities across Carlisle.

The programme includes performances by Mr Wilson’s Second Liners, LUXE, Dulce Duca, Logy Logan, Nula Hula, and more.

A central feature will be Absolutely Barking, an ensemble of 20 performers and artists from the UK, Ireland, and Sweden, centred around a unique performance space called the Biscuit Tin.

In addition to the performances, visitors can enjoy markets, a funfair, games, and participatory events, culminating in a parade through Carlisle city centre.

Individuals, families, and groups can sign up to join the procession, carrying torches or helping with parade creations.

There will also be competitions such as the Carnivale Cup tug-of-war and Fancy Dress for Dogs.

Eden Arts Director, Adrian Lochhead, emphasised the importance of community involvement in creating a vibrant atmosphere: “Carnivale is about celebrating the creativity, character, and people of Cumbria and having a fantastic day together.”

Visitors can also explore other attractions in Carlisle, including Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon at Carlisle Cathedral, West Walls Oktoberfest, and evening shows such as Antarctic Monkeys at the Old Fire Station.

The Great Border City BID supports Carlisle Carnivale, encouraging visitors from further afield to make a weekend of it in Carlisle.

Chandra Pollock from the BID stated, “Carlisle Carnivale is exactly the kind of event we want to support, bringing people into Carlisle and benefiting local businesses.”

Carlisle Carnivale is free to attend and kicks off at noon on 24th October.
