Cumberland Council has issued a black ice warning for the B5344 between Gosforth and Seascale.
Gritting crews were out last night, but mist and rain was present in the early hours of this morning.
They have urged drivers to take extra care, adjust speed to suit road conditions, and leave extra time for journeys.
