Bird housing measures lifted while biosecurity rules remain across the UK
National regulations updated for bird owners.
Bird housing measures have been lifted across the UK and Cumbria, allowing bird owners to let their birds outside unless they are in a protection zone or captive bird-controlled zone.
Owners are advised to check which zone they belong to for specific regulations.
Despite the change, bird owners across the nation are still required by law to follow stringent biosecurity and hygiene rules.
Key biosecurity measures include:
Keeping ducks and geese separate from other birds
Preventing contact with wild birds and rodents
Cleaning housing, equipment, vehicles, and footwear thoroughly
Maintaining records of bird movements, deaths, and eggs
Additional rules also apply for those keeping more than 500 birds, as well as for game bird rearers and shoot operators.
The continuation of these rules is crucial to prevent the spread of bird flu.
Bird owners are encouraged to remain aware of the regulations specific to their birds and to ensure full compliance to contribute to national efforts against disease spread.
