Bird flu found in poultry near Dalton-in-Furness as safety zones set up
Measures in place after bird flu case confirmed in Cumbria
Bird flu has been found in a large poultry farm near Dalton-in-Furness in Cumbria.
The virus is a highly contagious strain known as H5N1. As a result, special safety zones have been set up around the affected farm – a smaller 3km protection zone and a larger 10km surveillance zone.
Officials also confirmed that all the birds at the farm will be humanely culled to help stop the spread of the disease.
People with birds in the area are being told to follow the restrictions and check for any updates from authorities.
53 cases have been reported since October across the UK.
