A man from Ulverston has been jailed for more than two years for a series of offences against a woman.

33-year-old Ben Hurst, of Larch Grove, was found guilty of:

  • Inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent
  • Three counts of fraud by false representation
  • Intentional strangulation
  • Assault by beating

He's been sentenced to two-year-and-two-months in prison.

Speaking on the case, Detective Constable Katherine Taylor said, “Hurst subjected his victim to a violent assault grabbing her by the throat and throwing her to the floor before locking her in the house. He further assaulted her the next day.

“The victim suffered multiple injuries including a fracture in her neck.

“Whilst in hospital Hurst fraudulently used the victim’s bank cards without her permission.

“These offences will not be tolerated by Cumbria Constabulary, and we will do everything within our power to hold them accountable for their actions and bring them to justice.

“It can be hard for victims to talk about abuse, but we want to reassure anyone victim to such offences you will be taken seriously and dealt with professionally and sensitively."
