Anti-social behaviour drops by 42.9% in Carlisle
That's as police patrols have been stepped up
Anti-social behaviour hotspots in Carlisle have seen a 42.9% reduction in incidents, as police patrols were stepped up.
Operation Enhance, aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour across Cumbria, involves placing extra patrols in 15 identified hotspot areas.
Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, David Allen, secured £1 million in extra funding from the Government for the operation.
Hotspots include Carlisle’s City Centre, Botchergate, and London Road.
Between 1st August 2025 and 31st January 2026, reports of anti-social behaviour in these areas fell from 98 to 56 compared to the same period in 2024/25.
Shoplifting reports also fell by 16.4%, from 165 incidents to 138.
“This reduction does not distract from recent incidents..."
Chief Superintendent Andy Wilkinson said: “It’s promising to see that Operation Enhance continues to have a positive impact on reducing anti-social behaviour and other offences in Carlisle city centre.
“This reduction does not distract from recent incidents of anti-social behaviour in the city centre which resulted in a dispersal order being authorised. Officers dispersed several young people with one person being taken home.
“We continue to ask for the communities support in reporting incidents of anti-social behaviour or other offences to us.”
