Lincoln man charged after £4m cocaine seizure near Penrith

A man has been charged after police seized almost £4 million worth of cocaine in what officers say is one of the most significant drug seizures in Cumbria to date.

Courtney Gaston-Hird, 34, of Sandholme Lane, Lincoln, has been charged with possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.

Cumbria Police say officers stopped his car near Penrith on 3 June.

After a short foot chase, Gaston-Hird was arrested and officers searched the vehicle.

They found 39kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of nearly £4 million.

Gaston-Hird appeared at Barrow Magistrates' Court today (5 June).
