West Midlands based charity are reminding people to stay safe around water following rise in temperatures
It's after England saw its sunniest March on record according to the Met Office
People across Coventry and Warwickshire are being urged to take extra care around open water following the warm weather.
It comes after England saw its sunniest March on record and its sixth driest March since records began in 1836 according to the Met Office.
Tahir Parvaz is the urban engagement manager at the canal and River Trust in the West Midlands. Tahir says it's important people take extra care around rivers and lakes as well as beaches.
Tahir said: "So naturally, as the weather warms, everyone gravitates to the water but we have to be really aware of the dangers.
"The most immediate hidden danger is the coldness of the water. You may be a confident swimmer, but as you've hit the water or you've fallen in accidentally, cold water shock can immediately hit you.
"Other hidden dangers in the water include metallic objects, in urban areas there could be a shopping trolley, an old motorbike or bicycle in the cold water. If you caught your leg or you cut your leg on that, they could cause infection.
"There is also a risk of ingesting the water, you could get Valve disease which can cause a lot of complications and can make you really ill."
Tahir continued to tell us how to stay calm if you, or someone else find themselves in difficulty in open water.
Tahir said: "It's about remaining calm. Try to keep your head above water asking for help.
" You should also regulate your body temperature and keep your heart rate in control."
