Week-long road closure on A446 for HS2 works near M42 junction
HS2 is undergoing a week-long closure for viaduct installation
Drivers are being alerted to a week-long road closure on the A446 Lichfield Road, east of Water Orton, in Coleshill.
The closure will impact the connecting route to junction nine of the M42 for HS2 engineering works.
HS2 Ltd confirmed the road will be shut in both directions starting from 00:00 GMT on 26th February until 06:00 GMT on 2nd March.
The construction work involves installing sections of the Water Orton viaducts over the road, with concrete sections being lifted into place using a crane.
What to Expect During the Closure
HS2 detailed that the closure has been reduced from an initially planned 10 days to 7 days to minimise disruption. Work will be carried out round-the-clock during this period.
Access for pedestrians and cyclists will remain available throughout the closure.
Businesses and residents will continue to have access, and bus routes will be diverted to accommodate the closure.
Drivers are advised to check bus company websites for more information on bus route changes.
HS2 is also undergoing a comprehensive reset to ensure efficient construction and cost management, with plans expected to fully complete in 2026.
Updates on any changes to this schedule will be provided in advance by HS2.
