Each year Warwickshire Police expect to see an increase in drink driving offences during the period between Christmas and New Years.

The force is running their Operation Limit campaign to clamp down on drink driving and to help keep streets safe in the region.

Simon Paull is the Road, Traffic and Dogs Inspector for Warwickshire Police.

Inspector Paull has been telling us more about the campaign: “Operation Limit, focuses on drink and drug driving offences committed on our roads.

“It involves the use of unmarked and marked police vehicles carrying out target patrols, including morning after patrols, because unfortunately people may still be feeling the effects of drink or drugs the morning after.

"It's not just about us targeting drivers also about education.

"In the last few weeks I've educated young people around the dangers of drink and drug driving, and how it may affect them.”

Inspector Paull also shared advice on how to protect yourself from drink driving this New Years: “It’s important to have a designated driver so everyone else can go out, be safe, enjoy their night, knowing they're going to be getting home safely.

“We also want people to call out their friends and family if they are going to be driving under the influence and we ask those people to not get into a car with somebody that has been drinking and driving.”
