A 47-year-old man living in Warwick has been jailed for five years for owning a gun and making live ammunition.
Stefan Fenyes, who's originally from Slovakia, told National Crime Agency (NCA) investigators he was interested in survivalism and preparing for 'doomsday.'
He made nearly 230 separate orders online for equipment to help him manufacture the ammunition.
They included tools to reload fired rounds, and specially-made brushes to clean gun barrels.
When his home was searched, officers discovered a Czech-made pistol with a loaded magazine and rounds of live fire.
He also had military survival guidebooks, and a series of hunting-related items like crossbows and knives.
After being arrested at work in Royal Leamington Spa, Fenyes told officers it would be useful to know how to make live ammunition in case the UK was invaded by a foreign state.
He admitted the charges against him, and was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment at Birmingham Crown Court on 12 March.
Rick Mackenzie, investigating, said: “Stefan Fenyes is clearly obsessed with guns and was intent on assembling an arsenal of weapons.
“Our investigation has crucially removed a lethal firearm from criminal circulation, as well as live ammunition.
“While gun crime in the UK is among the lowest in the world, suppressing the availability of illegal firearms to criminals is a priority for the NCA.”
