Today marks three years since Russia invaded Ukraine.

Since, war has been ongoing between both countries with Russia slowly taking control of territory in Ukraine.

Over six million Ukrainians have been displaced from their homes since the war began with some settling in Coventry.

Peter Luczka is the Vice Chair of the Coventry branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain.

Peter has been telling us of the general feelings amongst local Ukrainians three years on.

Peter said: "We were very distraught in the early days of the war - it was very worrying and concerning.

"Those feelings haven't stopped as we continue seeing what's happening in Ukraine, all the lives being lost."

The lives of Ukrainians have changed dramatically since the start of the war.

Peter said: "They've just become accustomed to sirens going off.

Going into basements and basically trying to save their lives, and that's almost become the normal daily life.

"They've tried to go around the daily routine as as is as normal as possible for whatever you can describe as being normal in a war situation.

"Those who have settled here obviously are very concerned, and we all follow the news to see what is happening with respect to families, friends, close neighbours that they had, some of them have lost homes is just unimaginable to think."

Peter Lucska, and other volunteers, support Ukrainians who have moved to Coventry after fleeing the war.

Peter has been telling us of the support they offer: "There is that element of initial despair.

"As they have then settled down, they've almost become accustomed and acclimatised to a new life here in Coventry in the United Kingdom.

"We opened our Community centre and the Ukrainian Church in Coventry and said you are all welcome here.

"This is a piece of Ukraine where you can come along and speak Ukrainian and feel somewhat at home from what you've just left."

A vigil will be held this evening in Coventry to remember those who have lost their lives to the Ukraine war.
