Rail passengers travelling between Nuneaton and Rugby are still facing disruption after a bridge in Bedworth partially collapsed when it was hit by a lorry yesterday (June 11).

Network Rail said Maston Lane bridge was "seriously damaged" after the incident on Thursday afternoon, which caused part of it to collapse into the road.

No one was injured as a result of the collision and Network Rail engineering teams attended the site to assess the damage.

Maston Lane remains closed in both directions between Forders Lane and B4112 Nuneaton Road.

Services between Rugby and Nuneaton on the West Coast Main Line were delayed or cancelled yesterday as a result of the incident.

Lines have reopened this morning between these stations but trains are running at a reduced speed and may still be cancelled or delayed.

Martin Ball, infrastructure director for Network Rail's West Coast South route, said: "This collision has caused significant damage to the bridge and our teams are working hard to understand the extent. There will be ongoing disruption to train services through this area while we assess the bridge.

"We are working closely with our partners to keep passengers on the move wherever possible but anyone travelling should check on train operator websites or the National Rail Enquiries for the latest information."
