An experimental service enabling Coventry residents to freely dispose of large household items in their own streets is to be made permanent.

Council Leader Cllr George Duggins has confirmed that city council pilot scheme Bringing The Tip To You is to become a permanent fixture in the city.

The scheme brings skips to neighbourhoods on specific dates so residents can dispose of bulky waste for free without needing to pay for collection or arrange for a van to take it to the local tip. It also helps to prevent items being illegally dumped.

Bringing The Tip To You started earlier this year after being announced as a pilot programme funded for twelve months in February’s Budget.

Now, the Leader of the Council has confirmed that next year’s draft budget will include funding to keep the service running. Further details of the Budget consultation process will be released later in the autumn.

Cllr Duggins told the full council: “As a result of this year’s Budget-setting meeting February 24, 2026, this administration introduced Bringing The Tip To You service. It was to be a one-year experiment and so far, it appears to have been a tremendous success.

“Already in quarter one, eight wards have been covered. 50 streets visited, 6,599 properties targeted, and over 137 tonnes collected, with more than 5,000 bulky items collected. Naturally, the service will continue to be refined over the coming year.

“Therefore, I can inform the Chamber that we will be consulting on a pre-Budget report in November/December which will include making Bringing The Tip To You a permanent fixture of our budgetary proposals.

“I believe this will be welcomed by constituents across the city. It should, therefore, be rolled out in many more areas over the coming years.”

He added: “We also remain committed to ensuring the most robust of sanctions are taken against those who fly-tip when we have the evidence.

“We very much welcome the Prime Minister’s intention to ensure those who fly-tip and dump on an industrial scale receive commensurate sanctions.”

Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Duggins said: “Bringing the Tip to You has been a great success. The take-up has demonstrated the demand for this service, which is a key part of our fight against fly-tipping.

“Given Reform UK’s councillors voted against funding Bringing The Tip To You in this year’s budget, it’s reassuring to see them now advertising the same service online. That U-turn is overdue but welcome.

“Let’s now see if they’ll put their money where their mouth is and support Bringing The Tip To You in the upcoming Budget.”
