Ahead of the closure of Coventry Airport - as it prepares for redevelopment into the £23 million Greenpower Park - the last passengers to fly in were members of pop icons Take That.

The band arrived on what airport staff described as the final booked commercial flight, marking the end of operations at the site - ahead of their performance at the Arena.

Coventry City Council and Coventry Airport are collaborating on the development of Greenpower Park, which will commence after the airport's closure on 11th June.

The band members posed for a photograph with the ground crew upon learning they were the final passengers.

Coventry Airport said: “Those nice gentlemen from ‘Take That’ flew into Coventry Airport this evening and when they found out that they were our last ever passengers on our last booked commercial flight prior to closing, they insisted on a photograph with the ground crew to mark the occasion.

"Normally the ground crew would turn down such a request as we don’t like people using our image to further their careers but, on this special occasion, and because they asked nicely, we agreed.

"Thank you to ‘Take That’ for taking some time from their busy schedule to talk to the crew, allow a photo and for wishing us all the best for the future.”

The closure marks a significant change for the site, as preparations for Greenpower Park progress.
