Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm is hosting a special event today to celebrate the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough, honouring his lifelong dedication to wildlife and conservation.

To mark the milestone, 100 Blue Morpho butterflies will be released into the attraction’s rainforest flight area, with pupils from Stratford-upon-Avon Primary School and Thomas Jolyffe Primary School taking part in the symbolic moment.

The event is also being attended by the Mayor of Stratford-upon-Avon, Dani Hunter, alongside MP Manuela Perteghella.

The Butterfly Farm says the celebration is designed not only to honour Sir David’s extraordinary legacy, but also to inspire young people to protect wildlife.

Attenborough, who has previously visited the attraction, is widely credited with inspiring generations through his landmark wildlife documentaries.

The morning event gives children the chance to experience butterflies up close, with organisers describing it as a fitting tribute to a figure who has brought the beauty of nature into homes across the world for decades.

Butterfly Farm Owner Clive Farrell with Sir David Attenborough

Butterfly Farm owner Clive Farrell said: "Sir David Attenborough has inspired generations to care deeply about wildlife and the environment.

"It is a real privilege to celebrate his 100th birthday here at the Butterfly Farm, especially as he has visited us in the past.

"His 1983 ‘Wildlife on One: A Touch of the Butterflies’ led to queues forming at my London Butterfly House following its broadcast.

"To share this moment with young people makes it even more special, as they are the future custodians of our planet.”
