Building on the success of a summer picnic, the Southam Young Carers Group, in collaboration with the Carers Trust Heart of England and Warwickshire County Council, is inviting young carers to participate in upcoming drop-in sessions.

These sessions, scheduled for autumn and winter, follow the well-attended 'Picnic in the Park' event held on 11th August at Southam Community Centre, which provided an afternoon of relaxation and fun for young carers and their families.

The event, attended by Cllr Dale Keeling and Cllr Anne-Marie Sonko of Warwickshire County Council, highlighted the importance of providing young carers with dedicated spaces for relaxation and socialisation.

Cllr Anne-Marie Sonko, speaking about the picnic and future sessions, emphasised the value of such initiatives in supporting young carers: “These young people take on incredible responsibilities at home, and it is absolutely vital that they have dedicated spaces where they can relax, make friends, and simply have fun.”

The drop-in sessions are designed to offer a safe and supportive environment for young carers to unwind and connect with peers who share similar experiences.

Future session dates include 8th September, 13th October, 10th November, and a festive Christmas party on 8th December, all taking place at Southam Community Centre from 4:30pm to 6:00pm.
