Hospice to pause Day Services while focusing on core community care
The Shakespeare Hospice has announced plans to adapt its services amidst challenging financial conditions, aiming to concentrate resources effectively while maintaining essential support to the community.
Following a recent financial review, the hospice will temporarily pause Day Hospice services, ensuring core offerings such as Hospice at Home, adult counselling, bereavement support, complementary therapies, physiotherapy, and children and family support continue.
Tracey Sheridan, CEO of The Shakespeare Hospice, emphasised the importance of protecting these vital services, acknowledging the profound difficulty of the decision in light of rising costs and financial constraints.
Sheridan said, “We are incredibly proud of our teams and the Outstanding care they provide every single day - something that has been recognized by the CQC. That is why this decision is so profoundly difficult.”
The hospice plans to implement changes from October 2026, with services such as Occupational Therapy scheduled to close by the end of September 2026.
This decision reflects an effort to maximise resource impact while prioritising long-term sustainability for South Warwickshire families reliant on hospice care.
The hospice reassures its commitment to safeguarding patient support, with future service models being carefully developed using NHS England tools.
Community support remains vital in sustaining hospice services, with continual fundraising urged to address ongoing financial pressures and ensure reliable, lasting income.
As part of the transition, clinical teams are working to provide sustainable alternatives and maintain essential patient support.
