Ruby man jailed after assaulting police officer and robbing shop

A man from Rugby has been jailed after admitting to assaulting a police officer and robbery.
The court heard how in the early hours of 23 April Gary Crane, 48, entered a shop on Clifton Road where he pushed the shopkeeper over and stole some alcohol.
Crane then fled the shop and police officers found him in a nearby street.
When officers tried to arrest him he headbutted a Warwickshire Police officer.
The force say the officer was not injured and after CCTV showed Crane assaulting the shopkeeper, the 48-year-old was charged with robbery and assaulting a constable in the execution of his/her duty.
Crane pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing and at Warwick Crown Court on Friday (10 July) he was jailed for 38 months.
He must also pay a victim surcharge fee.
