The 19-year-old Warwickshire County Council leader, George Finch, has been elected as the leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

Finch secured the role with support from Conservative councillors, overcoming opposition from Labour Group leader Brady Hughes.

The Reform UK party, which won 15 out of 19 available seats in the recent borough council elections, chose Finch unanimously.

Although Reform UK is the largest political group in the council, they do not hold a majority.

Councillor Mike Bannister, representing Attleborough and holding a cabinet position for customer and localities at the county level, will serve as Finch's deputy.

Despite losing a county group vote to become deputy leader of Warwickshire last month, Bannister will now take on this new responsibility at the borough level.
