Now – are you being naughty or nice with your Christmas recycling this year?
Sherbourne Recycling Centre in Coventry are preparing for their busiest time of the year.
From Boxing Day till the end of January, it is expected that recyclable waste will rise by 30% in the region.
Anthony Hornsby is the Education, Communications and Social Values Officer at Sherbourne Recycling Centre who says they see an increase of certain items after boxing day.
Anthony said: “We receive lots of Christmas cards, wrapping paper and batteries this time of year.
“As a region we are consuming more.
“Glass is being used, more paper and card is being used, more plastic is being used.”
Sherbourne Recycling Centre have some top tips on how to recycle correctly after Christmas.
Anthony shared their approach to recycling wrapping paper properly: “Whilst wrapping paper is mostly recyclable, some of it isn't.
“The best way to check is to do a snowball test.
"When you've got your wrapping paper, scrunch it up into a ball in your hand.
"If it stays scrunched, it's likely that it's recyclable.
“If it doesn’t, that means it's probably got plastic fibres in there, and then we can't recycle the wrapping paper.”
