Police warnings about serious safety risks after stopping car on A46
Officers found the young passengers sitting on the laps of adults in the rear of an Audi
Police officers from Warwickshire's Operational Patrol Unit seized an Audi on the A46 after discovering that the vehicle was not only being driven by an uninsured driver, but also carried children seated unsafely.
During the stop, officers found the young passengers sitting on the laps of adults in the rear of the car, unrestrained and without seat belts, which police said put them at 'significant risk' in the event of an accident.
The driver of the vehicle was reported for driving without insurance.
The insured party was also present in the car and explained that they had let the uninsured driver take over because they were too unwell to continue driving themselves.
Police have reiterated the importance of road safety and compliance with traffic laws, especially regarding seatbelt use, which is critical for the protection of passengers, particularly children.
Other stops in their unit roundup
In their Facebook post, Warwickshire Police's Operational Patrol Unit listed several other stops made during their enforcement patrols.
These included a moped stopped in Leamington with a rider who also lacked insurance, a stolen Land Rover Defender found abandoned in Bulkington, and multiple other vehicles stopped for similar offences of having no insurance or being driven unlawfully.
Among the cars seized was a grey Vauxhall near Coventry Airport, with its driver reported for holding a provisional license since 2002, and a black VW van which had been untaxed for some time.
Warwickshire Police have been actively working to identify and take action against drivers violating road safety regulations, and they continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or dangerous driving.
Their efforts are part of ongoing measures to ensure safer roads and adherence to legal requirements for all motorists.
