New bus service to welcome Coventry City back to the Premier League
The new direct bus service will link Coventry Building Society Arena and Coventry Railway Station
A new bus service linking Coventry railway station with the CBS Arena is set to begin this weekend, providing a direct connection for football fans, concert-goers and other visitors.
The extended number 20 service will run seven days a week until 11pm, with the first journeys operating from Saturday, 29 August.
The launch coincides with Coventry City’s first home Premier League match in 25 years, as the Sky Blues return to the top flight.
The service has been introduced following a request from Coventry City Council and Coventry City Football Club, with Transport for West Midlands initially funding the extension.
Extra ‘football special’ buses will also be available on busy matchdays. The number 20 stops on Foleshill Road, a short walk from the CBS Arena.
Previously, the service ended on Trinity Street in the city centre, leaving passengers with around a 15-minute walk between the bus stop and railway station.
West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker said: “This is about making it much easier and quicker for thousands of football fans to get to the game when taking the train to and from Coventry.
“We’re also going to run these services late into the night to support the Arena’s ambition to stage more concerts and events, which will bring a real boost for the city’s night-time economy.
“Football is such a massive part of people’s lives, and that’s why we’re investing millions to improve matchday travel for fans.”
Councillor Lynnette Kelly, cabinet member for jobs, regeneration and climate change at Coventry City Council, said the extension would benefit both fans and local residents.
She said: “Public transport works well when it’s joined up and this is a great example of how a small change can make a big difference.”

“It’s set to be an exciting season on and off the pitch at the CBS and the club and the wider city are ready to welcome fans from across the country for games back in the top-flight.”
