Key milestone reached in Stoneleigh Junction improvement project
Support walls have been completed on the A46 scheme
The construction of the A46 Stoneleigh Junction bridge has achieved a major milestone with the successful completion of the first four support walls.
These concrete structures, known as wingwalls, are essential to the development of the new bridge and its adjoining roads.
Approximately 225 cubic metres of concrete were poured in July across the four sites, with the wingwalls varying in height from 7.7 to 9.5 metres.
Following this achievement, construction teams have commenced work on the next set of wingwalls, reusing temporary moulds and installing steel reinforcements in preparation for further concrete works scheduled throughout August.
The conclusion of these initial support walls signifies the start of the next phase, focusing on building foundations and road connections to the bridge.
This progress is part of the A46 Stoneleigh Junction improvement scheme aimed at enhancing traffic flow, increasing capacity, and promoting economic growth in the region.
Councillor Stephen Shaw, responsible for Transport and Planning in Warwickshire County Council, remarked on the progress: "Residents rightly want to see progress on this project, and that's exactly what is happening on site. The completion of these first four major support walls marks a significant step forward and shows the new bridge continuing to take shape."
He acknowledged the challenges encountered but emphasised: "While the project has faced challenges, our focus remains firmly on delivery. These latest developments demonstrate tangible progress on site and bring us closer to delivering the improvements that residents, businesses and road users have been waiting for."
