Man sentenced for two attempted bank robberies in Nuneaton
A 63-year-old man has been handed 8 years in prison for two attempted bank robberies
A man from Nuneaton has been handed 8 years behind bars following two attempted bank robberies in the market town.
Stephen Cheshire, who is 63 and of Kingswood Road, Nuneaton, appeared at Warwick Crown Court on Monday (12 May).
Police say that on April 17th last year, Cheshire entered a bank on Bridge Street while pretending to have a gun in his pocket. He intimated to staff that he was pointing the gun at them and demanded money. No money was handed over and he was arrested at the scene.
On 11 November, while on court bail for the offence (with conditions not to enter the premises), he went back into the same bank and again, pretended to point a gun at staff. No money was handed over and he was arrested at the scene.
He later pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted robbery.
Following the outcome, investigating officer Detective Constable Lauren Morgan said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the staff involved, who should not be subjected to this threat of violence.
“I’d like to thank the investigating team for their hard work and commitment to bring Cheshire before the courts, to ensure he will now face justice for his actions.”
