Longford Nature Park is set to receive a number of improvements to make the area better for wildlife and more accessible for visitors.
Work is due to begin in September 2026 and will be carried out by Coventry City Council’s Urban Ranger Team, working with the Friends of Longford Park and the council’s ecology team.
One of the main improvements will be the installation of a new boardwalk through the muddy section of the site, making it easier for people to walk through the nature reserve, while helping to protect sensitive habitats from damage.
The project will also include a major clean-up to remove fly-tipped waste and rubbish that has built up over time.
Habitat restoration will also play an important part in the project. Planned work includes woodland management, restoring and creating shallow wetlands, and carefully removing some vegetation to create better habitats for a wider range of species.
Councillor Patricia Hetherton, Cabinet Member for City Services, said: “By recovering habitats while making the Nature Park more accessible, we are ensuring more people can enjoy the benefits of nature close to home.
"Green spaces like Longford Park play an important role in supporting our health and wellbeing, tackling climate change and creating a greener, more resilient Coventry for future generations."
Following the improvements, the site will continue to be managed for five years. During this time, wildlife will be monitored and further habitat improvements will be carried out where needed.
