M6 near Rugby closed in both directions after serious collision
Emergency services respond as road closure causes traffic disruption
The M6 motorway between the A14/M1 Catthorpe interchange and Junction 1 near Rugby is closed in both directions following a serious collision involving an HGV that collided with the central reservation and overturned.
The crash occurred shortly before 17:00, and emergency services, including the Air Ambulance, attended the scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are also present to assist with traffic management.
Collision investigations are underway and expected to take several hours. Following the investigation, recovery operations, cleanup, and emergency repairs to the road surface and damaged central reservation will be carried out.
Currently, there is no estimated time for the road to reopen, and all traffic trapped within the closure has been released via the rear of the queue.
Diversion Routes
Drivers are advised to follow diversion signs due to the M6 closure.
For those travelling westbound on the A14 or northbound on the M1, a diversion route is in place. Commuters should follow the Solid Circle diversion symbol:
- At the Catthorpe interchange, take the exit slip to join the M1 northbound.
- Continue to Junction 20, exit to the A4303 towards Hinckley, and follow the roundabouts and A426 towards Rugby/Stanford to rejoin the M6 at J1.
For those travelling southbound on the M6, follow the Hollow Diamond diversion symbol:
- Exit the M6 at Junction 1, take the A426 to Gibbets Hill Roundabout, then A4303 eastbound to M1 Junction 20.
- Take the third exit onto the M1 southbound and continue to Junction 19.
Motorists should plan ahead, allowing for additional journey time and considering alternative routes or delaying travel where appropriate.
