A rape trial jury has been sworn in to try two men accused of attacking a 12-year-old girl in Warwickshire.

Ahmad Mulakhil and Mohammad Kabir, both of no fixed abode, each deny committing offences against the youngster in Nuneaton, last summer.

Mulakhil, who is aged 23, denies child abduction, two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and taking indecent photographs of a child.

Kabir, 24, denies intentional strangulation, committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence and attempting to take a child contrary to the 1984 Child Abduction Act.

Both men were assisted by interpreters as jurors were selected and took their oaths on Wednesday.

All the offences are said to have been committed against the alleged victim, who cannot be named, on July 22 2025.

Judge Kristina Montgomery KC, sitting at Warwick Crown Court in Leamington Spa, told jurors in the trial that they must be fair and impartial and show no prejudice towards anyone giving evidence.

Prosecutor Daniel Oscroft is expected to open the case for the Crown on Thursday.

Judge Montgomery told the seven men and five women of the jury: "Tomorrow Mr Oscroft will open the case to you.

"By which we mean tell you what it is all about.

"Cases involving allegations of sexual assault and cases involving children attract a good deal of interest in the public and they quite often excite emotional responses.

"I have already told you that you are to guard against allowing that to affect your judgment in the case."
