Investigations after firearm shot in Coventry City Centre

Police in Coventry are investigating after a firearm was shot in the city centre.

It's understood a black Volvo was pursuing a white Volkswagen Golf in the early hours of this morning.

Masked people from the Volvo then discharged a shotgun towards the Golf.

We're told both vehicles fled the scene and no one was injured.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: "We are appealing for information after a firearm was discharged in #Coventry city centre in the early hours of this morning (Tues).

"At around 12.45am its understood a white Volkswagen Golf was pursued by a black Volvo on The Burges.

"Masked occupants from the Volvo then discharged a shotgun towards the Golf.

"Both vehicles fled the scene. Thankfully, no one was injured.

"The Burges and Trinity Street remain closed while we make enquires."

Det Insp Francesca Crossfield, from Major Crime, said: "We are in the early stages of our investigation and ask anyone who have may have any information about the incident to get in touch.

“We’d like to hear from anyone who was travelling nearby and may have dashcam footage.

"We are reviewing CCTV footage and forensically examining the scene as part of our enquiries to understand what happened and who were involved."
