Gustavo Hamer has made a return to Coventry City, signing a long-term contract with the club from Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old midfielder previously enjoyed a successful three-year stint with Coventry City from 2020 to 2023, where he scored 19 goals in 132 appearances.

Hamer played a crucial role in helping the team solidify its place in the Championship during his initial season.

His accolades include being named Coventry City's Player of the Year for two consecutive seasons, 2021-22 and 2022-23, aided by his 11-goal performance, with two key goals in the play-off stages.

Back at Coventry, Hamer brings significant top-flight experience, having played 50 league matches in the Eredivisie during his time with Feyenoord and PEC Zwolle.

More recently, he spent a season in the Premier League with Sheffield United, contributing four goals and seven assists, ultimately earning the title of Blades’ Player of the Season.

Last season, Hamer's individual talent was recognised with the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Season award following his 18-goal contributions.

Expressing his enthusiasm about the return, Hamer said: “I’m buzzing, it’s the move I wanted to make. To go to the Premier League with Coventry was something I always dreamt of so when the Club came back in for me, it was very special so I’m very happy.

“The love I got from the fans was amazing so the only thing I can give back to them is goals, assists and a good performance so that’s what I will try to do. Of course, you can’t score or give an assist every game but what I can do is give 100 per cent for the badge, for the Club and for the fans.”
